What’s checked & tested on a Full Caravan Service?
Gas System
A gas leak has serious consequences tor your health, both from a fire risk and monoxide poisoning. Because of this we conduct a number of tests on the gas system whilst your motorhome is being serviced by us including:
- Testing for gas leaks using a manometer
- Testing for carbon monoxide within your motorhome when gas appliances are being used
- Testing that the FFDs (Flame Failure Devices) fitted to your gas appliances are functioning correctly
- Testing your carbon monoxide alarm (if fitted)
- Checking the condition and production date of your gas regulator and hoses – your gas regulator and your gas hose have a service life of 5 years from their date of manufacture
Electrical System
- Testing your RCDs work correctly
- Checking the earths in your wiring are in correct working order
- Testing your electrical sockets for polarity and continuity
- Checking the condition of your motorhome’s electrical wiring
Fire Suppression
- Check your smoke alarm is functioning correctly and is in date or change the battery (if required)
- Check your fire extinguisher is in date, is of the correct type and is secured correctly (if fitted)
- Check your fire blanket is secured correctly (if fitted)
Water System Treatment
As part of every habitation service we treat your water system to remove harmful bacteria that can build up from water in the system when your motorhome has not been used for some time
Fridge
- Check your fridge is operating correctly on 240V, 12V & gas
- Test for gas leaks
- Test that the Flame Failure Device is working correctly
- Test that the RCD is working correctly
- Check electrical wiring to make sure it is in good condition
- Ensure that the exterior vents are clean and clear of debris
Cooking Equipment
- Check the operation of your oven, grill, microwave & hobs (if fitted)
- Test for gas leaks
- Test the Flame Failure Devices to ensure they are working correctly
- Ensure that the exterior vents are clean and clear of debris
- Test the RCD to ensure it is working correctly
- Check electrical wiring to make sure it is in good condition
Air-Conditioning
Please note we only test your 240V air-conditioning systems if fitted, not your vehicle A/C which requires the engine to be running
- Test operation of A/C system
- Ensure interior and exterior vents are clean and clear of debris
- Anti-bacterial clean (optional)
T.V
- Check condition of your T.V aerial, 240V socket, 12V socket, aerial socket and all wiring
- Check your T.V mounting bracket is secured correctly
- Check your T.V signal
Leisure Battery
- Check physical condition of your battery, battery tie-down and battery compartment/box
- Test battery health and current state of charge
- Check water level and top-up if required. For unsealed batteries
- Test charge rate from engine and 240V mains
Interior & Exterior Lights
- Check operation of all lights
- Check condition of light fixtures & lenses
Electrical Inlet & Mains Cable
- Check condition of mains inlet socket and cover
- Ensure mains inlet locking mechanism is working correctly
- Check condition of mains cable and socket
Wiring & Components
- Inspect the condition of your caravan’s wiring
- Test that the RCDs are functioning correctly
- Check the wiring earths
- Check for blown fuses
Sockets
- Check for correct operation of all sockets
- Test plug polarity to ensure there are no shorts in wiring
Gas Bottle, Regulator & Hose
- Check the condition of your caravan’s gas regulator and hose
- Check the date of manufacture on the gas hose (the industry standard lifespan of a gas hose is 5 years from manufacture)
- Check the securing device on your gas bottle
- Test for gas leaks from the regulator, hose and connections
Gas Appliances
- Check operation of appliances on gas
- Test operation of FFD (Flame Failure Devices)
- Clean vents of gas appliances and check for obstructions
Damp Check
We test your caravan with a non-invasive damp meter to check for water ingress. If there is evidence of damp found then we will contact you for permission to test further using probes to identify where water is getting in
Doors, Windows & Seals
- Check the condition of your caravan’s doors (internal, external and access doors like the door for your toilet cassette), windows and seals
- Check the operation of your doors (internal, external and access doors like the door for your toilet cassette), the locks and grease moving parts (if necessary)
- Check the operation of your opening windows, latches and window stays
- Check condition and operation of your skylight and blind/flyscreen (if fitted)
Blinds & Flyscreens
- Check condition and operation of blinds & flyscreens
Body
- Inspect body for any damage or deterioration
- Check condition of exterior fixtures
Furniture, Flooring & Interior
- Check floor for delamination
- Check condition of interior furniture
- Check condition and operation of interior hinges, latches and catches
Brakes
- Check condition of the brake shoes, clean and lubricate the linkages
- Check condition of the brake drums and clean
- Check condition of the breakaway cable
- Check condition of the brake rods & cables and lubricate if necessary
- Check condition of the handbrake mechanism, adjust and lubricate if necessary
Hitch
- Check condition of the coupling head, clean and lubricate if necessary
- Check condition of the stabilising system (if fitted) including the friction pads
- Check condition of the hitch head gaiter
- Check condition of the brake damper and drawbar, lubricate if necessary
- Check condition of the jockey wheel and jockey wheel clamp, lubricate if necessary
Wheels & Tyres
- Visually check all wheels (including spare) for damage and buckling
- Check tyres (including spare) for damage, condition, tread depth and age
- Ensure wheels are torqued to manufacturers specification
- Check wheel bearings for wear and excessive play
- Check condition of the suspension (if fitted)
- Check condition of spare wheel carrier and lubricate if necessary
Chassis
- Check condition of the caravan chassis
- Check condition and operation of corner steady legs and lubricate
Road Lights
- Check condition of connecting plug (either 13-Pin or 7-Pin)
- Check all lights for operation
- Check condition of light units
Motor Mover (if fitted)
- Check operation and condition of motor mover
- Check condition of mounting bolts and mounting plates
